WE DID IT!

Crankin' 4 Cranios was an enormous success! We already raised over $12,000 in donations and we still have another month to fundraise! We ended up with 10 riders, including a last minute addition to the team - ELI! We all had a blast on the ride and our first time riders, Meagan, Alicia, Alirio and Chu all rode until there butts were too sore to sit! We were all exhausted at the end but elated at having finished and met so many amazing people all working to support such a great cause. I, for one, am looking forward to next year when I hope we can recruit 20 riders and raise $20,000.

Thanks to our sponsors: KT's BBQ, Hazen Research, Wild Eggs, Connect Us, Meridian Golf Club, Trent Wearner Golf Academy and Blackbottoms.

Special thanks to those of you who helped us raise so much money! We are all grateful and humbled by the outpouring of generosity. You all helped us to do something great here. It is the beginning of something wonderful for the Children's Hospital, the kids being treated at the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders and for our families.

There is still time to donate if you haven't already:

ELI RODE!

He did it! Eli rode the entire 35 miles of the family ride with us on the second day of the Courage Classic. Eliyan rode the entire day too, and so did Noa, but she slept through most of it. The kids did a fantastic job. We weren't sure that Eli was going to be able to sit in the Weehoo for that long but he had a great time! He was pedlaing away and singing and talking to the other riders the whole time.

We borrowed a Weehoo for Eli so that he would be able to do the ride. It's like a recumbent trail-a-bike where the kid sits in a comfortable seat but still has pedals and can help with the pedaling instead of being dead weight like in a trailer. It's much more comfortable for the kids than sitting on a bike seat and the lower center of gravity makes it easier on the rider as well. We loved it! Now we have to figure out how we can afford to get one ourselves.

The real props should go to those of us who pulled the three kids in their trailers and then rode the entire 45 miles the third day! Exhausted is putting it mildly. I rode the century last year and pulling 80 lbs of Eli and trailer for 35 miles is harder than doing 100 miles on my own.

With Meagan riding this year and Eli too it's the beginning of a new era in my cycling, family biking. It may be slower, but as long as I am pulling these kids in trailers it's still a pretty good workout.

There's still time to donate to Eli's ride. He is way behind in the fundraising. Help him catch up!

Courage Classic 2012 - July 21-23

For the third year in a row, I am riding in the Courage Classic to support Children's Hospital Colorado. The first year it was just me on my own, then last year I twisted the arms of a few friends and got them to ride with me. This year I went big: I have recruited a team of 10 friends and family! We are an official Courage Classic team and we even have sponsors and jerseys! Our goal is to raise $15,000 for the Center for Cancer and Blood disorders at Children's Hospital Colorado. With your help we can do it. Give what you can; if 75 of my friend donate $20, then I have done my part. Seriously, small donations go a long way toward meeting our goal.

You can donate here:

Crankin-4-Cranios

Our team is called Crankin 4 Cranios in reference to Eli's tumor, craniopharyngioma. The team is comprised a friends and family of Eli. We have a great team this year with our riders ranging in age from 12 to 67! I am so happy to have gotten this great team together. We have all been training hard to get ourselves in shape to finish this grueling, 150+ mile ride. The training has been hard work but we've also had a lot of fun too. It's amazing the camaraderie that comes from shared pain!

A very special thanks to our generous sponsors, who have made it possible for us to create these awesome jerseys: KT's BBQ, Hazen Research, Wild Eggs Restaurant, Connect Us peer socialization groups for kids, Trent Wearner Golf Academy and Meridian Golf Club. The jerseys were designed under the strict supervision of Eli who required that they be blue with a blue Curious George on them.

Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders at Children's Hospital Colorado

Every Penny we raise this year will go to support kids with cancer at Children's because of our partnership with another Courage Classic team, Wheels of Justice, our money will all go to the CCBD. Supporting the CCBD is the mission of our team. No child should have to have cancer and no parent should have to see their child go through chemo and radiation. The money we raise will go to support children with cancer and their parents.

Eli is Riding this year too!

For the first time, Eli will be riding with us in the courage classic. He will be riding in a trailer bike called a Weehoo behind me this year. We are hoping with some distractions like an ipod and a digital camera, he can last at least 1/2 the 35 mile family ride.

I will post more later in the week. Wish us luck and donate if you can!
